A crisp blue sky illuminates the city of Barcelona, Spain. As one traverses this quaint city you may discover a quintessential café near the famed Gaudi Cathedral, where you can rest after touring this spectacular site. You may notice as you walked past an artist capturing the Gaudi in that moment, and he strikes a close resemblance to our founder, Thomas Kinkade.

This first painting in my new Flags Over America Collection, America’s Pride, features the same dramatic sky and waving flag seen in my previous painting, while below I pay tribute to the most patriotic of all American cities – our nation’s capitol. In my painting, I have depicted the Washington, D.C. skyline with lights glittering as evening approaches. The Capitol Building is illuminated, as is the  Washington Monument, while cherry blossoms catch the last rays of sunlight in the foreground. There is no doubt that for all citizens of the United States, our nation’s capitol truly is America’s Pride.

The setting sun’s warm glow reflects upon the water in one of Amsterdam’s famous canals. The distant windmills appear to move in the gentle breeze and evoke memories of “simpler times”.

Thomas Kinkade loved plein air or open air painting, and Amsterdam was a dream destination of his. Thom and his family were able to spend time in the historic city and paint in plein air in the surrounding countryside. Their shared memories recall the charm of Amsterdam and the simple act of riding a bicycle along the canal, where they would stop for hot chocolate, coffee, or a cool beverage, and of course, a pastry at the local café.

Thomas Kinkade Studios created Amsterdam Café, a painting that celebrates the historic beauty of Amsterdam and captures Thom’s vision of this iconic city. Amsterdam Café invites you to enjoy the celebrated canal and imagine the delicious treats this city is famous for.

There is so much to love in New York’s Central Park that om would often spend hours alone there simply wandering about, sketching, lost in his thoughts and communing with God in nature. Feeding the spirit and filling the eye, the views of that grand city, fronted by the ora of the park, were absolutely perfect subjects for Thom’s work in oil and he would never end such an excursion without new ideas and passions to capture on canvas. “The colors and natural compositions of the place are sublime” he would say, and then recognize it as being crafted by both the talented landscapists who laid out Central Park’s design and by the hand of the Creator who clearly blessed this plot of land with a natural magnificence.

Bow Bridge is one such landmark in the park that excited Thom’s artistic sensibility. The gentle curve of the arch joining Cherry Hill to the Central Park Ramble, the magnificence of the New York skyline as the leaves change color, and the tranquility of the day boaters enjoying a chilly afternoon on the lake, all add to the romance of the scene and make it destined to become an instant Kinkade classic. You can almost smell the fall air, hear the wind in the trees, and see the light as it dances across the rippling water. Autumn in New York is the perfect piece for those who love New York and for any whose heart tells them to visit. Enjoy New York as you view this masterwork. Life is filled with quiet surprises. One such delight can be found in an autumn weekend on Mackinac Island – that charming retreat from modern living nestled in the sparkling waters between Lake Michigan and Huron. The only way to reach Mackinac Island is aboard a ferry, and once you’ve arrived, the only modes of transport are walking, bicycles, and romantic horse-drawn carriages. No automobiles or motorcycles disturb the enchanting timelessness.

In autumn, crisp beds of red geraniums highlight the lush greenery, while the heady aroma of chocolate fudge blankets the island. The array of charming Victorian homes and hotels are crowned by the magnificent Grand Hotel and transports us into centuries past. The nostalgic mood is further underscored by musket fire echoing from the restored Fort Mackinac.

In Autumn on Mackinac Island, carriages clatter down the enchanting lane while bicycles weave languidly to and fro. Nan’s Fudge Shop – a tribute to my wife’s famous fudge recipe – invites us to sample the island’s chief product, while the Grand Hotel peeks proudly from behind the autumn foliage of the trees at the left of the lane. The steeple of the famous Little Stone Church rises above the trees at the right of the composition and geraniums festoon the town with patches of red. Now, with Autumn on Mackinac Island, you can enjoy the season of plenty in this charming and nostalgic haven all year ’round.

Boston is a city for walking! One of the delights of my last trip to Boston were the long walks with my wife Nanette and our two-year-old daughter Merritt, in her stroller along the leafless lanes of Boston Common at dusk. A wet storm front was breaking up overhead one chilly evening when I got the inspiration for Boston, An Evening Stroll Through the Commons. The sweet, warm fragrance of the candied peanuts roasting in the sidewalk vendor’s cart and the glowing lights make the city of Boston one of my favorite subjects to paint.

Artists seek to present a distinctive vision of the world, which means that there are favorite themes, color harmonies, and subjects that repeat themselves in our work.

In Boston Celebration, I make a virtue of necessity by returning to a favorite subject at a different time of day and year. My first painting of historic Boston Commons on a damp fall day nearly fifteen years ago, was a great success. Now, when the birthplace of liberty is celebrating the dizzying triumph of a curse-breaking World Series followed by a second consecutive Super Bowl Championship, it seemed the ideal time for a fresh look at this favorite historic destination.

With this painting, we stroll the Commons at a very special moment in time – a chilly winter’s evening in the weeks following the 2005 Super Bowl triumph. Flags celebrating both the champion Red Sox, as well as the victorious Patriots festoon the square. Blazing lights seem to herald the celebration; the glowing façade of Park Street Church looms like a victory torch, while a chestnut vendor adds to the festive air. Does the couple walking under the church spire conjure memories of John and Jackie Kennedy? I’ll leave that to you.

I’m a great believer in the importance of first impressions. That’s one reason why Boulevard Lights, Paris is so dear to me: its the first print in my new City Impressions Collection and the first release of his new Studio Impressions Collection. This new collection is an expression of my passion for color and the way natural light affects the subject.

The City of Lights has been a springboard to my imagination even before the first of my many visits there. You see, my mother had a print on her wall – an energetic, dazzling lit Paris as seen by a 19th Century street painter – that captivated me as a child. So it seemed natural to launch my first impressionistic series by honoring the art of such giants as Beraud, Cortes, Galien-LaLoue, with a celebration of the city that has inspired master artists of every era.

I have enjoyed such a bustling vision of light and color in one of my journeys to Paris – I just couldn’t tell you exactly where or when. Because of this, Boulevard Lights, Paris exists for me in the ethereal world between experience and imagination that we call memory. And perhaps it is just as well, because somewhere in the heart of everyone who daydreams is an imaginary memory of Paris.
