Spring in the Alps
It’s only in the last decade that the Kinkades have been able to explore the wide world. Our first trip remains fresh in my memory, largely because of the artistic record I created along the way for my own pleasure – and to share with the public.
Spring in the Alps fondly recalls a maiden voyage to the Alps in 1985. Nanette and I first traveled to the Alps, bringing with us naïve expectations that came for The Sound of Music. Astonishingly, we were not disappointed in our romantic hopes; we discovered numerous alpine scenes where Maria and the Von Trapp children may have sung and played.
A great peak, perhaps the famed Jungfrau, lends its snowclad dignity to Spring in the Alps – while delicate alpine flowers bloom and trees stand as silent sentinels, linking the timeless and the ephemeral. The tranquility is unbroken.
- Inspired by Thomas Kinkade’s first trip to the Alps in 1985, he illustrates a mountain peak that is based off of the Jungfrau Mountains in Switzerland.
- Spring in the Alps is part of Thom’s Archival Collection in which he had painted the original of this image many years ago – in this case the mid 1980’s.
