Silent Night
In this, the third of our annual Christmas releases, I painted a theme I find particularly satisfying: the peaceful reverence of a moonlit Christmas Eve. In fact, this is the first moonlit cottage I’ve ever put into paint. I was so taken with the simple message of the classic Christmas carol Silent Night – with its images of sleeping villages and the coming of the Christ child – that I decided to give the annual Christmas release the same title and evoke a bit of the songs’ mood.
What could be more enchanting than a full moon shining down on Christmas Eve, with the stars beside the moon shining down on a sleeping, snow-covered village? I hope this painting of Silent Night will remind each of us of the message of hope and peace that is the true meaning of Christmas as illustrated in the Savior’s birth.
- In loving tribute to his wife Nanette, Thomas Kinkade has hidden two N’s in Silent Night.
- Silent Night is the third of ten in Thom’s Christmas Cottage Collection.
- The title of this painting was based on the popular Christmas carol of the same name – “Silent Night.”
- Thom’s Silent Night shows a peaceful cottage guided by the stars and the coming of Christ. Initially, some owners who bought this particular painting received a music box that played “Silent Night” as well.
