Moonlight Cottage

I can’t imagine a life more worth living than a life spent celebrating romance everyday. And if, like me, you’re addicted to the pleasures of romantic settings, there is no more of a romantic place to be than under a full moon. Many times as I’ve strolled home through our village after some event, I have lingered long at the sight of the moon above me. Standing still and watching the moon in the sky is thrilling enough, but watching it rise against the landscape is even more breathtaking.
In Moonlight Cottage, I celebrate the enchanting moment when the moon begins to appear above a sheltered cottage set within a forest. Beholding this scene as the sounds of the forest envelope you and the moist fragrance of evening fills your lungs would be a transcendent moment. I cannot imagine a more peaceful experience.
Another fancy in my heart as I worked on this painting was that this cottage was meant to be shared. This especially came to mind recently when a close friend of mine and his fiancé announced the date for their wedding. To them, this painting became a special commemoration of their love for each other – a “poem in paint” of a life shared together. As my verse suggests, if there is a “life worth living” surely it is “because you’re mine.” Nanette and I couldn’t agree more.
- Moonlight Cottage will hold a special place in Nanette’s heart as Thomas Kinkade has hidden twelve N’s dedicated to her in this painting. He has also christened the cottage with her name, as it boldly appears to all whom pass through the front door.
- The changing evening sky, with its vivid color displays of the brilliant purple sky adjacent to the night moon, bring forth an enchanting ambiance of this quaint cottage, dirt path, and forest beyond.
- Moonlight Cottage is the third and final painting in Thom’s Places in the Heart Collection. Each piece in this series features a cozy cottage lit and warmed by a fire inside and set on a dirt path that leads off into the far distance, awakening our imagination.
