Thanksgiving in New York

There is probably nothing more exciting than the fall and winter holidays in New York City. There is probably nothing more central to that excitement than the Thanksgiving Day parade. Standing in the brisk air, marching bands play, floats pass by and overhead, whimsical balloons fill the sky. It all truly overwhelms the senses and fills the heart with happiness of the season.

In my mind, the parade procession begins with the scary fun of Halloween as depicted by the jack-o-lantern seen moving down the street and into the distance. Then, a Thanksgiving turkey and Old Saint Nick take center stage of the celebration. Baby New Year follows, bringing up the rear and marking the turn of another calendar page.

You may notice one of New York’s most famous visitors – a gorilla who would be king – and another fabled ‘bestie’ of imagination, that many of us can only hope to see when the unusual occurs. Indeed, my parade happens when pigs can fly! I hope you enjoy this Thanksgiving in New York and as always, I want to thank you for sharing my adventure in art.
