Called to Serve
Through every generation, for the love of family, friends and community, men and women have answered the “call to serve” each of us by protecting and preserving our great freedoms. These brave men and women of law enforcement, have helped to build our country and to preserve the “American Dream” that our founding fathers envisioned.
These heroes are ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances and endeavoring to act with courage, honor, self-sacrifice and love. In the simple performance of duty, they answer the call to help the helpless and to find the lost, no matter how grave the danger or how great the cost. We are proud to present Called to Serve in recognition and appreciation of those who have answered the “call to serve.”
- Called to Serve is the second in the Heroes Series, which Thomas Kinkade conceived as a tribute to all of our brave first responders who give of themselves to the people of our communities.
- The number on the car – 1958 – is the year of Thom’s birth; and the image on the shield on the police car comes from Thom’s Main Street Courthouse painting.
- Called to Serve features a historic “town square” reminiscent of those found in towns like Auburn and Placerville. It features historic buildings and a quintessential church often found at the heart of these small towns.
- The inclusion of a church in Called to Serve reflects Thom’s many faith-based values: the flag, his spirit of patriotism, the small-town square, his love of family, home, faith and community that we often associate with those places and times.
